Stock exchange Cryer - what news today?

While continuing to experiment with options and models to have a local language model tell me any pertinent news of my portfolio, today I randomly wondered 'Has anyone actually made a model for stocks news specifically? And wouldn't you know it, someone has done just that!

So let's load it up and see if it can handle anything newsworthy from the close to 30 options I currently have floating around..

Program: LM Studio 0.4.1.2

Model: Qwen3-0.5b-stocks-news-v2

Additions: I still have the Yahoo finance MCP from the last experiment so this could come in handy (if it needs it)

I'm using the Q8 version here because it was the only one available when I searched in LM studio.

Time for a road test!

Testing the news service!

Firstly I named this new model Fabius, ala Fabius Bile from Warhammer 40K (yeah I'm still on a bit of a W40K bent at the moment.) In response, the model called me Fabius. Once corrected I got down to business, asking it what I needed to know to do it's thing:

To provide detailed recommendations or specific news about your portfolio with the latest stock quotes and financial performance, please include your preferred company name or ticker symbol. This will help tailor the information efficiently. Additionally, let me know if there's a particular date or timeframe for the news you're looking forward to and I can adjust my recommendations accordingly.

And so I fed it what I was after including the tickers and the markets they represent (ie on the ASX, NASDAQ or NYSE)

When I ask you about my portfolio, I would like any news you feel is important on the following stocks: INSERT MY STOCKS HERE

I would like to any new news on these stocks each time I check that you haven't already told me previously. Please include any important announcements and dates and news on dividends. If there is no news for a specific stock when asked, please report with 'There is no movement on the radar.'

After a bit of think (and it took all of 32 seconds which is a great speed!) it came back with a few headlines. However none of them actually belonged to any of the stocks I currently own..

SHN (ASX) SUNSHINE METALS LTD - It confused for Shinseiki Ltd, which doesn't seem to be an actual stock I can find anywhere. How it managed to find dividend data when I can't find it even existing is anyone's guess.

PEP (NASDAQ) PEPSI - Not being able to drink Pepsi (or Coke for that matter) the model confused this entry for something called Pentech. Again, Yahoo Finance can't see to find anything by that name as an actual stock you can purchase so this is a head scratcher.

SABRE (NASDAQ) - I don't have any Sabre (SABR) in my collection. But it told me about their 2% increase in quarterly earnings which is helpful...to someone I guess.

I could go on but it looks like there's a fair bit of fine tuning needed here (and perhaps a little less creativity too!) And for some reason it's reporting in Rs instead of Aud so I need to change that up to.

I'm feeling like this bloke at the moment..

 ABT - ALWAYS BE TWEAKING!

-Perplexity suggested dropping the temperature right down from 0.8 to 0.2 as well as a couple of other minor changes so I've put them into play. (I'm still learning a lot of terms but obviously you hotter you go, the more creativity comes into play?)

-This model can't read links though so convincing it what shares I really own could be a bit tricky here. Especially when it doesn't seem to take no for an answer:

That's not correct, that doesn't even exist!

-It did say that it switched to AUD so if that's worked, that's a start!

-I gave it my Python generated Portfolio from earlier but it wasn't sure what to do with it no matter how I tried to explain it. In the end I asked it to search for news on the stocks in the text file and it just read all the numbers from the text file and that was it.

-I asked Perplexity to tighten up the prompt and it did:

You are a portfolio news monitor.

When the user asks about their portfolio, report only new and relevant news for these tickers:
INSERT TICKERS HERE

Only include news that is new since the last time you answered. Do not repeat items you have already reported.
Focus on:
- major announcements
- earnings
- guidance
- dividends
- dividend dates
- share buybacks
- mergers, acquisitions, or restructures
- major contract wins/losses
- regulatory or legal events
- material price-sensitive updates

If there is no new movement for a stock, write exactly:
There is no movement on the radar.

Do not invent facts.
Do not speculate.
Do not mention stocks not on the list.
Do not give investment advice.
Return concise bullet points.
If possible, include the date of the news and the ticker.
If the user asks for portfolio news, check every ticker on the list.

It got one thing right!

-Unfortunately it's still having one hell of a time working out what's what. Like the fact that Pepsi doesn't make resistors and for some reason they now sell coke too?

This is news to their competitors!

Er.. it's a no for me here.

It's stubborn, confused, blunt and unhelpful. I don't think this one's going to be hanging around my system for long. Oh well, got to try these things! (Back to the drawing board we go!)
